Webcam Quickcam Messenger installation
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to setup my Quickcam webcam on slack 12 and i've come to a dead end.It seems I managed to load the camera module and it autoloads on boot as it seems from my dmesg output: Quote:
Any help or pointers? |
I have the same camera, however as I've researched, we're in the unfortunate boat of some work, and some do not. I notice however that you are not using the gspca module?
I first tried it with the logitech quickcam driver without luck. I suggest downloading the gspca driver from http://mxhaard.free.fr/ . Install as it has noted and modprobe gspca (perhaps modprobe spca, check the readme). That site also has a couple of applications for testing the camera out such as spcaview. I suggest downloading one to give your camera a quick test. Make sure you're part of the video group, or you may have permission problems with v4l. This worked perfectly for me when using the gspca driver. Good luck, Coto |
Slackware package for the gspca driver (plus SlackBuild script): http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/gspcav1/

I have installed the driver, and tried with xawtv to test if it works but there is no video node in /dev. Is this a v4l issue? how can i create the node?

What's your dmesg output? Have you modprobed the proper driver, perhaps a fresh restart? Have you tried the spcaview tool yet? I'm not sure how XawTV works, but spcaview is a very very basic program, and I'd check if the camera works on something that simply tries to access your camera, without any other clutter.

Yay it worked.:p
Thanks for all your help,I just run spcaview and after that the camera worked fine with everything else. |
