Web Authoring Tools

I know that many of the people in this Slackware community have there are own web sites and I was wondering what web authoring tools y'all use. For my website and the one I maintain for our school's marching band, I use Seamokey Composer. It makes life a lot simpler for things like formatting text and placing pictures on the page. I would like to be able to add things to our marching band's site like style sheets and online forms. Windoze has a ton of programs that make web authoring a lot easier (ie Dreamweaver). I've tried looking for Linux tools that have some of the same features, but I haven't found one.

Thanks for your suggestions!

The native Linux program that comes closest to Dreamweaver (and it is not that close) is Nvu. You can also consider Quanta Plus.

Yea, I use Quanta plus since it came with Slackware. It works great for me, but then again, I'm not doing any professional web development or anything. I would check them both out and see which one you like.

Nvu is really nice, jEdit is good too if you do some programming. You could always use Dreamweaver MX and run it with Wine.

I use Seamonkey Composer as well for my little personal site.
(NVU, Mozilla Composer, and Seamonkey Composer are about the same)
I will soon be switching to a proper host and am thinking about
making a more "rich" website. I'm thinking of checking out a content
management system like "Joomla" or the like. Does any one use this
type of thing? Is it good for building a website?

Trying KompoZer

Thanks for the suggestion. Downloaded KompoZer rather than NVU as it is supposedly a later version

In my opinion joomla is terrible crap. And it's way too complicated for just setting up some kind of personal homepage. If I were you I'd take a look at Drupal (http://www.drupal.org/). If you're a programmer than there are some very nice python web frameworks like django (available at slackbuilds.org) or webpy. Or what about a wiki engine? There's MoinMoin, one of the best CMS-like systems I've ever seen (and very easy to install and maintain).

just my 2¢,
Martin
