@onebuck,

I've added a script to start scim when KDE starts:

Code:
chris@darkstar ~/.kde/Autostart $ ls -l start_scim.sh && cat start_scim.sh
-rwxr-xr-x 1 chris users 29 2010-05-17 23:17 start_scim.sh*
#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/scim -d
But I still have the issue. So I've reverted to my workaround for now (time's up for me tonight).

I wish someone who's using scim could confirm/negate this issue with scim-bridge and Firefox - refer to this thread for detail about the issue:

Hi,

That's the point. With RC1 you had better start 'scim' before any 'X' application that's why the reference to use autostart in KDE. How about trying to 'simply add the line "scim -d" to your ~/.xprofile file.
This gives you a Desktop Environment independent way of starting scim.' as stated for a XDM. Even if you don't use runlevel 4 this should make certain that 'scim' is independent of KDE.

You are right. Adding scim.sh doesn't help. I always had this with Slack 12.2. However, for 13.1 RC, I need more hours to test.

I just want to generally advertise to anyone who uses DRBD as an LVM PV to not upgrade to -rc1 or 13.1 if it's released as is. Somewhere between DRBD and LVM is a serious data-corrupting bug and I'm currently working on trying to find the culprit.

Slackware 13.1 RC1 works great on my 2 laptop and 1 desktop pc. but i think i have some problem about Xsession in /etc/kde/kdm on my laptop. compared to xinitrc.kde, i think Xsession on kdm has missed ck-launch-session. i have to add it manualy so i can have consolekit registered session.

did it just happened on my slackware or somebody has similar problem? FYI i'm always doing slackware upgrade from slackware 13 to current (13.1 RC1), not clean install.

thanks for share.

Thank you very much onebuck for your patience . SCIM now works with Firefox (no more screen freezing) if I use:

simply add the line "scim -d" to your ~/.xprofile file.
But as mentioned in an earlier post, SCIM didn't work for me in Firefox when I used:

Quote:
In KDE, you can add a shell script to the ~/.kde/Autostart folder that runs the command "scim -d"
Maybe it would be good to only mention the .xprofile option in CHANGES_AND_HINTS.TXT

Look forward to another reliable and stable Slackware release.

have you tried to add "scim -f socket -c socket -d" to your ~/.kde/Autostart/start_scim.sh? if not, please give it a try.

Last year S13 was released on the day of my birthday (Thanks Pat for a great b-day present). This year it might be someone else's birthday. Whose birthday is still in May?

May is starting to look like it will be a great month for Slackers everywhere. 13.1 is coming soon to a PC near you.

My first time experiencing a new Slackware release! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited.
