Is your son obsessed with "Lunix"?

BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker operation system, invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos Torovoltos, before the Russians lost the Cold War. It is based on a program called "xenix", which was written by Microsoft for the US government. These programs are used by hackers to break into other people's computer systems to steal credit card numbers. They may also be used to break into people's stereos to steal their music, using the "mp3" program. Torovoltos is a notorious hacker, responsible for writing many hacker programs, such as "telnet", which is used by hackers to connect to machines on the internet without using a telephone.

Your son may try to install "lunix" on your hard drive. If he is careful, you may not notice its presence, however, lunix is a capricious beast, and if handled incorrectly, your son may damage your computer, and even break it completely by deleting Windows, at which point you will have to have your computer repaired by a professional.

If you see the word "LILO" during your windows startup (just after you turn the machine on), your son has installed lunix. In order to get rid of it, you will have to send your computer back to the manufacturer, and have them fit a new hard drive. Lunix is extremely dangerous software, and cannot be removed without destroying part of your hard disk surface.

Well spotted - this is very worrying. To all users I recomend running :
Code:
echo "setterm -foreground green" >> ~/.bash_profile
as a matter of urgency to prevent prosecution .

Yeah, right. Since when have computer screens not had green fonts?

There's nothing wrong with posting stuff like this, but you should always acknowledge your sources. Not doing so would be plagiarism, and embarassing for all parties involved.

Well, the old wyse & HP dumb terminals I used to have to use favoured Amber. The ibm3151/3 dumb terminals actually had black on white screens but they're a little more modern and I never really cared for them.

Personally, I like the Amber screens. They just seemed more exotic at the time.

I don't think all is being told here in this story. Either way the cops can always come up with a reason to take your stuff. So can the govn't. So, there's nothing unusual here.

It's possible that we don't know everything there is to know about this story.
It's been going around Twitter and sounds crazy, especially in a place like Boston but it appears that the EFF is coming to the student's rescue.
I always leave my Slackware machine out in full view and within easy reach in case the police or thieves should ever visit my house. Let them figure out what to do with the black screen and the white fonts.

Hi,

Yes, the swarm is a flight!

Portion(s) of the warrant have been posted to support the investigation selectively. You can read into the article the conspiracy but if you investigate further then the facts support the BC police. Gosh, these guys must describe explicitly what they want to seize. Not being technically efficient then of course it would come out simplistic to someone who has any tech knowledge that the BC police aren't geeks.

It's bad enough to have to know the law and then enforce it. I'll side with caution towards the police. The violator has a known history of computer violations. No, he's innocent on these charges until proven guilty. But I still think some of what has been posted is mere speculation at this point.

Hey! Wait a minute. Some innocent people using cmd.exe on Windows could be wrongfully arrested!

Please tell me the story was a joke (especially the Lunix part)!
