: kdevelop-3.0.0a6-i486-1 wat does it mean? i486?? does it mean its compiled at a 486 machine?should i get the source codes and compile again..? thanx..... |
i486 means it is optimized for the Intel 486 processor. Any processor equivalent to the i486 or greater will run it. A 386 can't run it, but a Pentium can. Compiling again is not needed (but if you compile it again optimized for your processor it might be faster).

Hmm, not optimized for i486, but compatible with - anything lower won't do. All official Slackware packages are optimized for i686.
