warning messages running ./configure with kde 3.5.1

Hi all,

I recently decided that I'd like to give KDE 3.5.1 a go, and had tried a couple of different package sets for slack 10.2 that I found but both seemed to fubar my menus, and Pat's packages from slack-current won't run (I assumed because of other system upgrades that I didn't have), so in the end, I dl'ed the source kde directory from current instead, and with a couple of small changes I was able to build 3.5.1 on my own system via the new Slackbuilds. (the only things I changed in the Slackbuilds was to not build a new qt and a configure option that the new KDevelop needed)

All seems to be going very well, no problems with using the new kde at all, but I've noticed now that when I go to install a new software package from source, using the standard ./configure make make install, that during the make I get WARNING messages stating:

KLocale: trying to look up "" in catalog. Fix the program

I'm not sure what to make of that or why exactly it happens. I've never installed any of the kde internationalization stuff at all so not sure why my locale would be messed up. Any insights as to why this is happening and what I could do to fix it would be appreciated.

For what it's worth, going ahead and installing the compiled software seems to be fine, and the programs all seem to run fine.

Sorry, I said the warnings happened during the configure, but it's during the make.

Just a guess, but if you have never installed a kde-i18n package then Klocale will not find what it is looking for. If you install the kde-i18n for your language it should stop complaining.

KDE 3.5.1 in slack current works fine.

yup, it works fine in my system also :D
i suggest you updates all your packages from slackware-current also :)

Thanks for the suggestion, but I went through the business of compiling kde so I wouldn't have to upgrade a whole slew of stuff on my system except for kde, checking the 3.5.1 requirements on the kde site showed me that I meet them with slack 10.2. I just downloaded the kde-i18n-en_GB-3.5.1.tar.bz2 package and made and installed it, but I still get the make warnings when I try to compile any kde package. I wasn't aware of needing to install an internationalization for english anyways, never have before :)

I've seen a post that states the same problem on one of the kde mailing lists so I'm also keeping an eye on that in case one of the devs can shed some light. I appreciate the responses anyways :)

When you guys upgrade kde from slackware-current are you upgrading anything else first? I tried it and X would crash so I upgraded X as well but the newer X has a bug in the video driver that won't allow my laptop to resume so I can't use the new X packages. I have a nee drive on the way (needing more space) so i'm going to install 10.2 fresh and want to get kde3.5.1 working with out upgrading X.
