My adult daughter's system currently has Slackware 13.1 32 bit installed - no problems, we are both happy campers. She is now trying to do some more serious graphic design.
I am thinking of getting her a Wacom Intuos4 graphics tablet (medium size, if it matters). I have read several threads here and it looks easy with the kernel rebuilt with wacom support.
But most of the threads are a little old and the SlackBuilds wacom package seems to not be updated since Slackware 13.0. I surmized that it was not needed for later releases but am now a little confused.
So - anyone using this device? Any tips or hidden problems? Comments?
I don't want to give her a disappointment!
Thanks in advance.
EDIT ***************
I have continued to research this through the evening and am confident that there would be no show-stoppers in getting it going. The device also gets great reviews so I think it is a good choice overall, for my purposes.
When/if I purchase it and get it going I'll post my experience here.
In the mean time, I am still interested in comments from anyone who uses one under Slackware, particularly with regards to configuring it for use within the Gimp.

Hi,
I won't be able to fully answer your question, but I can confirm this is a 1st class choice. All AAA game artists (ubisoft, et cie) are using the wacom tablet, it's a very good product.
I have one myself (unfortunately not on the continent I now resides so I can't test), but I remember having it working on slackware without recompiling at least "as a mouse", of course I missed the other dimensions of the pen (pressure, orientation), and for that I have no experience, and couldn't tell if it's usable in, say, the gimp.
One thing I was particularly interested in is how well the pressure sensitivity works with GIMP.
Further reading indicates that it works well with GIMP 2.7 and the latest linuxwacom project build, so I have one on the way - should be here in a few days. Kernel recompile does not seem to be necessary as I currently understand it, but is not a problem if required.
My last outstanding question is how to set up the buttons to activate specific features withing the GIMP... anyone?
