vpn suppliers

I've tried two vpn suppliers so far and only had heaps of trouble.

Can anyone suggest a vpn supplier that works with Slackware 14.1 ?

Have you tried Linode [1]? Although I'm not running Slackware on them, I administer two Debian VPSes for a friend and never had any problems. Their support was always helpful when needed.

Smile ExpressVPN

I have an answer.

ExpressVPN their config file worked straight away and kept working, unlike the other suppliers I tried.

An excellent vpn in my opinion is AirVPN.

make sure, once you are setup to do an online DNS leak test, i find many vpn suppliers have tons of DNS leaks, (especially the free ones) effectively making them completely useless.
you're not hidden if your traffic is passing through your isp servers.

Personally, I like to set up a cheap vps with Linode or Digital Ocean VPS hosting companies and handle all my VPN needs myself. You are then guaranteed that your traffic is the level of encryption you need (using a self signed, self generated SSL Certificate), you can be sure that you are immune to MITM attacks, that your logs are only accessible to you (and therefore deleted when disired), and that you do not have any DNS leaks.

In the past I've routed all my traffic through a VPN link on my Asus RT-N16 using DD-WRT firmware (which includes OpenVPN VPN software) to my external virtual private server hosted by Linode. What this does is makes it possible for all devices on my network avoid installing VPN software because all the traffic is being routed through a tunnel from my home router to my external server.

Of course, this set up will not work for torrents. It will make your home network extremely privatized- especially if you do not register a domain name on your external VPS server. I had a separate OpenVPN subnet that routed traffic from my home network to the internet, which was not accessible (using iptables) unless connected to from my home IP address. I also had an additional VPN network that was accessible from anywhere on the internet (which was activated using a port knock daemon) that I used only while I was on the road.

Of course, all this can be done using SSH tunnels too, which may end up being more secure in the long run.
