I have vncserver displays running but anything GTK outputs error:

Xlib missing RANDR

x11vnc works fine for logged in sessions (locally, and viewed remotely).

But vncserver shows kde apps ok but anything GTK is ugly only via vncserver session.

Replicated the root (as well with users).

Google searches refer to little other than an ubuntu forum whose 'solution' does not work.

TightVNC may be just too old-tech to support RandR. Try my TigerVNC, which is the next generation: http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/tigervnc/
My tigervnc log does not complain about RandR extension missing, although you need desktop resizing support on the server side (KDE should support this, I am not so sure about XFCE) if you want to be able to dynamically resize the vncviewer's window.

What conf file should be used?
Where tightvnc uses /etc/tightvncserver.conf, where is tigervnc's counterpart with the aim of setting default options (geometry etc).

I have checked the package and there is no additional system conf file for tigervnc.
I do have /etc/rc.d/rc.vncservers and /etc/rc.d/rc.vncservers.conf

These may be a residual of tightvnc uninstalled, cannot be sure but will retest.

/etc/rc.d/rc.vncservers.conf can easily be configured for one or multiple server displays and users which can be stopped started or restarted correctly with appropriate rc command however googled results advise of parameter VNCSERVERARGS[n]="-geometry 1600x900"

But these ARGS examples are not passed. I will continue to retest options and configs, any useful info to help with this tigervnc and slack'

Hi just bumping this thread as I've the same/similar problem. I couldn't get tightvnc to respect geometry settings in rc.vncservers.conf, so I've swapped tightvnc for Alien Bob's tigervnc package. Same prob though, I always end up with the same geometry which is too small for me.

Anyone got any ideas how to make either vncservers package respect geometry?

Running Eric's tigervnc-1.3.0-x86_64-1alien on 14.0 under xfce4.

I start the server in rc.local with no other config files, and small enough to fit on a small laptop: On the client side, vncviewer geometry initialises as defined, but can be resized like any window (drag), or by the vncviewer '-geometry' option.
