VMware is not running in Kernel 2.6.12.5

Hi again.

I have a trouble with vmware on kernel 2.6.12.5.

I run ./vmware-install.pl, i choose directories, i do the networking, but while it compiles the module vmnet, i get some warnings:

Quote:

cp -f vmnet.ko ./../vmnet.o
make: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-config0/vmnet-only'
The module loads perfectly in the running kernel.
And then, after starting the vmware services, the Bridged networking has failed its starting:

Quote:
Starting VMware services:
Virtual machine monitor done
Virtual ethernet done
Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 failed
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet1 (background) done
Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet8 (background) done
NAT service on /dev/vmnet8 done
If i try to run Vmware, i get this error:

vmware is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured
for this system. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:
/usr/bin/vmware-config.pl.

On kernel 2.4.31, i configure vmware by the same way and i don't get any errors.
I would use 2.4.31 kernel then, but i need 2.6.x for some advances.

Any ideas how i could do the trouble? Do you think it could be bcoz of wrong configure of the kernel, and if so - what is it.

OS - Slackware-current

Thanks in advance.

This is plastered all over the web, especially on the vmware forums and is even on a couple threads here at LQ. It's a problem with the vmware startup script. There is an 'unofficial' updater you can download and run or you can just make the changes yourself.... You'll have to do a search for the updater if you want to go that route cause' I can't think of the file name at the moment.

Code:
@@ -248,6 +248,13 @@

 db_load 'vmdb' "$vmware_db"

+if [ "3" = "2" ]; then
+ vmdb_answer_VNET_0_INTERFACE="$vmdb_answer_VNET_INTERFACE"
+ vmdb_answer_VNET_1_HOSTONLY_HOSTADDR="$vmdb_answer_VNET_HOSTONLY_HOSTADDR"
+ vmdb_answer_VNET_1_HOSTONLY_NETMASK="$vmdb_answer_VNET_HOSTONLY_NETMASK"

 # This comment is a hack to prevent RedHat distributions from outputing
 # "Starting <basename of this script>" when running this startup script.
 # We just need to write the word daemon followed by a space --hpreg.

Goto: http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/

and download:

vmware-any-any-update93.tar.gz

Unpack it and run "runme.pl"

How are you trying to run it? It's a perl program, not bash.
