Lightbulb VMware 3.2 and Slackware 9/8.1

Here is a really tough one. I have VMware Workstation 3.2 installed on Windows XP SP1 and I'm trying to install Slackware Linux 9.0 as a guest operating system. I've tried searching on google but all the information that comes up is woefully out of date.

I've installed Slackware 9 no problems, but when I try to boot, I'm not getting any video to be displayed. I chose to use the safest possible video mode selection for display purposes since I can't actually see it boot. That eliminates the higher resolution modes available with VMware tools (which obviously is not yet installed). The disk access icon is indeed blinking as is the one on the real PC. I can mount Slackware just fine off of /dev/sda1 onto any arbitrary mount point and chroot into it A-OK. That shows the install went fine.

Other distro's have gone on without a hitch but I obviously want good ol' Slackware. The situation is the same for 8.1 and 9.0. All the posts that are even remotely similar to this didn't get any substanitive follow-ups so am I forsaken here?

If you solved it could you post the solution so other people with similar problems can benefit from this?

You know first hand how annoying it is when you have a problem and you can find similar questions but no answers to them.

I went through an install AGAIN, apparently telling LILO to install in the MBR got it. I didn't pay particular attention to what I did this time around as opposed to the other times. Flagging /dev/sda1 bootable and installing LILO there SHOULD have done it though.

Thanks for posting this! I had the same problem, marked /dev/sda1 bootable, and it didn't work. I forgot about the MBR too... Thanks again.
