VLC Movie File Crash

I have version 3.0.8 of Alien Bob's build of VLC. It plays audio files normally but playing mp4 and mov files results in a crash with the following message:

Code:
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-open.c: 677: _dl_open: Assertion `_dl_debug_initialize (0, args.nsid)->r_state == RT_CONSISTENT' failed!

My (painful) switch to current over this past weekend has indeed solved the problem.
