VLC can't play avi and mp4 videos after todays upgrades

Hello,

I'm running Slackware64-current.

after today's massive upgrades VLC can no longer play mp4 and avi videos. There are the necessary codecs missing.
I've already upgraded to the latest version of VLC (from Alien Bob's repository), but with no luck.

Does anyone know what to do?

Markus

I just tried an avi on Alien's latest build and it worked just fine on -current.

Well, I found out that the sound works but not the video with mp4 files. Yesterday it worked very nice.

I've now executed
Code:
strace vlc anymusicvideo.mp4
I found this error
Code:
0x7ffc60cadda8] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `h264'. VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
I'm not aware that I have changed something at my system other than the upgrade of current.

I have the same problem with my subnotebook which runs Slackware (32bit) current (upgraded today). I'm using the vlc-package from Alien Bob as well.

Is it possible, that the problem is related to the fact that I have uninstalled KDE? But yesterday vlc worked even without KDE.

I think I'll have to try it out.

No, I didn't but have tried it yet. Both, the restricted one and the normal package yield the same result.

Mh, I've checked the plugins-directory for vlc. The codec which vlc says is missing is H264, but there are files libx264_plugin.la and libx264_plugin.so.
So I think the codecs are there.

But I think I'll have to go to bed now it is about half past two in the morning. I'll sleep on the problem, maybe I find a solution tomorrow. Thanks to willysr for the help, it is very appriciated.

looks like you have to recompile all those modules with the new openssl package

The problem is fixed now that I have installed today's upgrades of openssl and openssl-solibs.
