I have not updated SBo because we are now planning another minor update (which I expect we will push out tomorrow), which includes security fixes from upstream Chromium. Thus there seems little point in submitting 2.11.1811.38.
@Skaendo We have something interesting for the next major version (i.e. post the 2.11 series). Not going to give the game away but watch out for the next snapshot for more information.

I admit that after a mostly pleasant round of enthusiasm for Vivaldi, I simply couldn't swallow the Google heritage and it never became the Mozilla replacement that I had hoped. Instead, I have become even more cynical about all things internet and have simply concluded that the tools are adversaries and no longer worthy of trust. With the Google engineered squeeze-play regarding cookies (better articles avaliable, this one came up quickly), in the interest of protecting our privacy of course, even more so. My take is that they are trying to shoe-horn everything further into their own pockets, but I would love to be wrong.
I will be interested to see what Vivaldi has in the works, but only guardedly hopeful.
Thanks ruario!

Ok, we just pushed out a minor update (Vivaldi version: 2.11.1811.44) that includes Chromium version 80.0.3987.125 and thus includes the security fixes mentioned in this Chrome blog post
including CVE-2020-6418 for which there are known exploits in the wild. I have sent an update to SBo. It is in the pending queue. If you use the SBo package to install Vivaldi and do not want to wait, I suggest you edit the SlackBuild version number yourself locally and upgrade. Alternatively, this is the script I used to generate the vivaldi.tar.gz package that I submitted to SBo. Just run it locally and you will get the updated slackbuild
I've noticed something that is happening with Vivaldi, it's not a big issue as far as I'm concerned, but thought that I should bring it to attention.
I have been running Vivaldi (from SBo) for a while now and upgrading with upgradepkg.
Currently I'm on 2.11.1811.44
I also don't shutdown or restart Vivaldi very often.
It's usually open on the Start Page and sitting in my panel if I'm not using it.
The thing that I'm seeing is that when I go into Settings -> Sync, I'm seeing something like this:
Quote:
Download: Success
Upload: In Progress
and it seems to be stuck there.
If I restart Vivaldi, it seems to Upload fine and reports "Upload: Success". It seems to only do this when it's been running for a while.

Ok, Part 1 of that is in the snapshot we just released
I tried Vivaldi a couple of years ago, and dropped it due to it feeling glitchy: graphical portions of bookmarks deleted from the bookmark panel would remain until the page was re-rendered; emojis were displayed as empty rectangles; while scrolling quickly, a diagonal line would make the screen appear cracked, but it would go away as soon as the scrolling came to rest. However, this thread prompted a re-evaluation.
I found ruario's tweet about emojis, and now that the noto-emoji package has been installed, the empty rectangles are full of emotion! So that hurdle is now behind me. There still is one feature I desire: I haven't been able to get any browser, Vivaldi included, to make a sound when a push-notification is received. Ironically, Vivaldi even has a iconic "bell" to represent its silent notifications; but at least I can click on the bell and see recent push-notifications.
I suppose audible notifications might be achievable through a third-party extension, but I have to go to google and download chrome extensions. There's something called PushBullet that may achieve this; it shares its source; if I was skilled enough to audit said source, I would know whether it was safe to run. I usually steer away from the third-party extensions out of sheer paranoia.
Having the bell icon for the push-notifications as well as reader view, and notes, are all features that improve my browsing experience. Now that the emojis are worked out, I'll paddle Vivaldi around some more. The cracked display illusion when scrolling happens in all the browsers--especially at LQ. It is probably related to vga controller, and would probably improve on better hardware.
