video playback is too slow
Lo all,
Got a new problem that appeared recently.. My video playback on mplayer is way too slow, (a few fps), with the sound being normal.
On Totem player, it plays for a second or two, then crashes the application...
Can it be from a sound problem i previously had (with alsa <> oss <> nforce drivers), or is it not liking xvidcore 1.0.2 or something?

The sound =)
it went horribly wrong (as it did for the past few days), but it works now, when it shouldnt tbh...
i installed the nforce 2 audio, as well as alsa (but didnt run alsaconfig).
i added
alias sound-slot-0 nvsound
in etc/rc.d/rc.modules
but in boot time, it says
modprobe: cant find sound-slot-0
modprobe: cant find nvsound.
and loads OSS compatibility for ALSA (or something like that) instead. Surround sound works but with severe problems.. ALSA doesnt load, all apps that work on sound (except xmms) refuse to work, or crash, etc...

I have a problem with xvidcore too, I ended by re-encoding the video to lavc codec, divx4 with mencoder. I used :
/usr/bin/mencoder -of avi -oac copy -ovc lavc -lavcopts \
vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=1000:vhq:keyint=250:vlelim=-4:vcelim=7:\
vfdct=0:idct=0:subcmp=0 \
<original.avi> -o <new.avi>
