Video Capture Apps - Trust Webcam WB-1400T USB
I have just been given a Trust Webcam WB-1400T USB device as a present (yeah - it was my birthday) and as usual the driver/install disk is for Windoze. This is a USB device and 'lsusb' shows:

Bus 3 Device 2: ID 093a:2468 Pixart Imaging, Inc. Easy Snap Snake Eye WebCam
I have recompiled my (custom) kernel ( to include video4linux support as a download of "gspcav1-20070508.tar.gz" - (the required drivers for my webcam) - wouldn't compile originally. Anyway - since recompiling my kernel to include v4l support - gspcavi compiles ok. Lsmod shows this

: Module                  Size  Used by
snd_seq_dummy          6924  0

so I assume all is well. The question is what applications can I install to give me video capture abilities from my webcam. I would prefer an app that gave me a view of what was being captured in realtime - if that's possible. Also snapshots would be nice. (These facilities are available with the Install CD's software under windows) - so I would love to setup the same functionality under linux. I'm just not sure what apps provide these abilities for Linux. I appreciate this may be a bit vague but hopefully you get the idea.
In a nutshell - I think I have now built in support for my webcam but don't know how to view/capture it's output. P.S. - I really don't want to try this under Wine as Wine always gives me a headache... TIA.

For snapshots, you may like camstream... :)

Thanks for all the replies. Just compiled camstream and it works a treat. Now to progress to some of the other suggestions. Thanks again.
