VIA KM400 drivers in slackware?

Has anyone got a VIA KM400 integrated graphics chipset and tried downloading the drivers from and using them with slackware?

VIA have helpfully provided drivers just for Redhat. Great.

And why can't I get KM400 to support 1024x768 interlaced @ H35.52 V86.96 on my dodgy old monitor? Will the drivers fix it? (Windows won't do it either) I don't really want to chuck my old ATI RAGEIIc in just to get this screen mode, (fact:RageIIc supports it). I'm using XFree86 r4.4 & kernel 2.4.26 , both freshly compiled

Looking in the forums at viaarena someone pointed the way to, the open source drivers for the via unichrome chipset , which is what the km400 is. There it is recommended to not use the drivers provided by via as they are unmaintained, and not very good.

This lead me to download the epia patches for kernel 2.4.25 and patch a 2.4.25 kernel - which compiles fine, but "undefined reference to..." errors occur when linking.
