VGA output from laptop
hi.. i'm running slack12 on dell inspiron 1300 laptop. can anybody give any advice on how i can get the vga output to work? i connected it to a vga monitor and there're no signals detected. do i have to add something to xorg.conf or something? some help, please?

On my laptop, I have to connect the external monitor before X starts. This is only since slack12.
What I generally do is: - log out from KDE - hit ctrl-alt-backspace to kill X at the kdm login screen - X comes up again on both monitors (laptop and external) I run runlevel 4. I you are using runlevel 3, just attach the monitor before you type "startx" This works for me, but I would appreciate it if I could use the "Fn-F8" hotkey again for switching the screen between monitors. |

You might need to enable the vga in the BIOS of the Dell. I'm not sure if the default state is <enabled>. |
yep, i was just gonna ask the same questions about VGA output :D
i usually run slackware at runlevel 3, so i can plug it after i logged in, but before i start the graphical. |

okay... doing it the first time works. but, i kinda lost the 1280x800 resolution on my laptop panel. it appears the two display can't have different settings even though there are two entries in kde control panel. when i tried to ctrl-alt-backspace again to lose the vga monitor, i completed lost control of my laptop display. i guess i'll just stick with my laptop display :p
