Hi,
I've tried to mount my secondary hardisk but failed. And it happened too with my floppy.
My mount command is :
mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
and the message :
mount : fs type vfat not supported by kernel
What's wrong with that ?
I can mount these devices before I upgrade my kernel from 2.4.18 to 2.4.21
i've check my kernel using control center (in Xwindows).
at file systems section, DOS FAT fs support, and VFAT (win-95) fs support, option is enabled.
btw, before i upgrade kernel, do i have to run the patch ? i just read about kernel compilation that i should using patch before i upgrade my kernel.
i was using kernel 2.4.18 and i upgraded to 2.4.21 and i don't run any patch and i can run my linux right now.
is it something that make my system not working properly, VFAT not working ?
No you don't need any patch for fat support. You must see how you added the fat support to your kernel, if it is via module, then you have to load the module first.
Btw, just to make sure, if i want to upgrade my kernel from 2.4.18 to 2.4.21, do i have to run patch 2.4.19 and 2.4.20 before i compile 2.4.21 kernel ?
Thanks

If you have the kernel source for 2.4.18, you can patch it with the 2.4.18-to-2.4.19 patch, and after that the 2.4.19-to-2.4.20 patch followed by the 2.4.20-to-2.4.21 patch. And now there's kernel 2.4.22. I think if your current kernel is a few version away from current, its better if you download the full source because the combined size of the patches is almost as big as the whole kernel itself!
