Hi soldan,

I think this question has been asked (and answered) before so you might want to do a search here on LQ.

For me, Slack offers a richer tool selection (emacs and all the tradition Unix tools) out of the box, most of the Slack-derived distros are aimed at e-z setup, maintainance and the desktop user. If you want to "Think Unix" (with kudos to Jon Lasser) then I'd go Slack otherwise Vector can help you easy into Linux.

I started using Vector couple of weeks ago and I really liked it. I used the Xfce desktop enviroment together with the ROX icons and it is really fast and nice.
But now I'm trying Slackware 10.2 and I think it is even faster. Even though I'm using KDE 3.4.
Also the SW comes with alo more packages preinstalled. I think that is the biggest difference between VL and SW.
I'm a true newbie into Linux, but comparing to the distroes I have tried like OpenSuse, Ubuntu, Fedora, Zenwalk (also a fork of Slack..)DSL and Xubuntu, I think that SW is the best. I think that all the other distroes are good, except the breezy ubuntu that is quite slow.
If you like Vl or Zenwalk I would suggest that you tried out SW.
