Vector Linux 3.2 Issues.

Since Vector Linux is based on Slackware, I am also posting here some issues I have with Vector Linux. Please assist. Thanks.

Vijay

1. CD-ROM doesn't read files in it. (SOLVED)
Sometime CD-ROM doesn't read files (eg., when I loaded the Mandrake CD, I couldn't read all the files in it) Please Assist. Thanks.

2. Software Package Feature not Working.

I tried to install/unsinstall as well as connect to the Vector FTP site using the feature/icon Software Package on the ICEWM Desktop. However, when I choose the option, and clicked OK the window would just disappear. Please help. Thanks.

3. I am looking for the following basic packages for Vector Linux. Please let me know where I can find them,
the specific file name and any other installation, usage tips.

a) Calendar/Organizer/Scheduler
b) Alarm Program
c) SpreadSheet
d) A PC PostItNotes Program
e) A PDF File reader
g) Usenet/Newsgroups Reader

Optional:
a) Atleast one simple game to relax when using Vector.

4. Unable to Use X-Media Player.

I tried to mount a CD and play it X-Media Player. Unfortunately all the files in the CD are not showingup. I tried another CD with the same results. I was adviced to play the CD without mounting. This didn't help as well.

5. Exercise Request - Package Install.
Please give me a plain simple package (for eg., post it notes) to install (or provide the URL and related details). A package that works, so that I can learn and get familiar with the software
installation process in Vector Linux well.

6. vec-get not working.
I made sure I was online as root, then I tried to use the program vec-get. It said something like no connection.

7. Windows C: Drive Access Question: (SOLVED)

Inorder to access my C: drive from Vector I was suggested the following:

First log in as root then:

a) To mount, I would type: mount -t vfat /dev/hdc1 /mnt/windows

b) Then I add the line:
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat umask 022 0 0
to: /etc/fstab and then the line umask 000

c) Save the file and exit.

d) Finally check in /mnt/windows for the C: Drive.

I tried all the above and it didn't work.

8. GKDial Not Working.
This is just out of Curiosity. Has anyone got the Program GKDial to work. Whenever I try it, it fails. On further efforts it, opens several windows and keeps this up until I shutdown the system and restart. Please help.

Note: I have got PPP to work to dial. This is just out of general interest.

9. Copy and Paste Not Working.

If I try to copy a text from the browser and paste it into a document in Abi Word it is not working. The reverse also doesn't work. ie., I am unable to copy and paste text from any document in Linux to a browser based applications.
