uxfs ffile system

Ok i am in need of some serious help

I have to install the uxfs file system, and prove i have done so using kdb debugger......

http://www.wiley.com/legacy/compbooks/pate/

I am having some major problems

I have slackware 12 here with kernel 2.6.21.5 ... the instructions i have for the uxfs install are for 2.4.18

this is the exact instruction "Build, install and use the uxfs file system. You should give examples of the actual creation of a file, changing it size, copying the file and deletion all work by giving either kdb or kgdb traces of these operations. These traces should show the actual changes made to kernel data structures."

Many thanks

Why should anybody do your homework? Why not read the book, it is very clear, and once you are up to speed, it should be doable to update the sources. Of course, you could also use an older Slackware with a 2.4 kernel if you are lazy .

If you buy the solution, you'll learn nothing.
If you learn nothing, there is no need to waste your time studying this subject.

Better tell us what you've done/tried and what errors did you get. Then maybe we'll be able to help.

BTW, we don't have the book. And there is one good advice: RTFM first (no offence).

I've tried compiling it on 2.6.x, but it doesn't work, I would recommend using Slackware 11.0 or earlier with 2.4.x kernel, you'll have a better chance. I can't believe they didn't update the source for 2.6.x kernels.

I have finally go the uxfs working on the 2.4.18 kernel with slack8 .... however i have a task to enable symlinks ..... i have looked through the source code, but cannot understand how the fs translates things like rm to delete or the create file to the uxfs code to actually carry out the command

basically i dont know how to capture the ln -s command so that i can then excecute some code based on it ...
