using dd to make bootable slack usb
I'm trying to use alien bobs usb wiki to make a bootable usb slack installer. the syslinux part was easy and worked fine but adding the package tree has proved a bit confusing, I was trying to use the cp and mv commands to get the immages from my slack 13 iso but I had stumbled accross a way of using the dd command and can't seem to find the information again. Can someone point me to a link on this?

USB installation has been officially supported since Slackware 12, so the information in the Wiki is probably redundant now. The pre-made bootable image and documentation on how to write it to your USB device is in the /usb-and-pxe-installers directory on the Slackware disc.
If you want to but both the installer and package tree on a USB drive, the easiest way would simply be to make two partitions on the device. The installer can be on the first partition, and the actual packages on the other. |
You might check this if you want to install from a usb drive:

I have had absolutely no problems installing Slackware from a USB stick using the standard Slackware dvd iso and Unetbootin.
Whether or not this is the -best- way i'm not sure but its pretty simple :) |
