Using an IDE CD-Writer with kernel 2.6

I've recently switched to 2.6 and now it says that using ide-scsi is obsolete. It also looks like the Cd-Writing howto which comes with Slackware 10.2 is outdated and does not cover these issues. I've still tried to write a CD (using ide-scsi) and the burning program started to write it at 0.1x speed
There's no need to spoon-feed me, just gimme some links where I could read about this and I'll come back with more specific questions if I won't be able to setup everything properly.

I'm not sure the question here.

2.6 doesn't need to emulate a SCSI burner anymore, it handles IDE burners normally. So software like K3b or whatever you are using should pick it up as a burner right away.

Granted I have never used the 2.6 kernel that actually comes with Slackware, but I have never had to do any special setup when compiling my own kernel. I just enabled the IDE support, and it worked with my DVD and CD burners.

Hi,
You could pass the;

Code:
append="hdc=ide-cd hdd=ide-cd"
To the kernel at boot or place it in the stanza for the boot you want in lilo/grub.

The 2.6 kernel uses the ide-cd module for atapi or ide devices.
