Question User canīt change password anymore

Hello,

I am running Slackware 10.2 and suddently a "mortal" user canīt change itīs password anymore.
When i do passwd as "mortal user" i have to enter the old pwd, after i did this i get
"Given password is not correct, password for <user> has not been changed".

However i can change a users password if i am root.

Note: On the machine i want to change the users password i am running a NIS server, but the password/user for which i want to change the password is not included in the NIS database.

Any ideas?

Thanks
tiuz

Lightbulb May be a solution change nis map priorities

Hello tiuz,

I think you will have to change nis map priorities which can be changed through the following config file:-

/etc/nsswitch.conf

especially this region should look like
----------------------------
passwd: files nisplus
shadow: files nisplus
group: files nisplus
------------------------------

That way whenever a user enters /tries to change password
the local files get first priority and then the nis database.

Hope, this will help you.
