USBFS Problem

I need to mount usbfs in order to get my scanner up and running. It appears that the vile fstab does not contain it, although the kernel seems to have it activated. What are the necesary options in order that usbfs to be activated in the menuconfig of the 2.6.15 kernel, and how do I mount the usbfs once it is compiled in the kernel?

Had many missing libraries, backed all up, installed fresh, compiled kernel, everythings works fine.
