usb to ps/2 converter won't work

I have a unique setup on my laptop. I use a usb to ps/2 converter (with two ps/2 connections) which I then plug into my usb port, and attach my ps/2 legacy mouse and ps/2 keyboard into a single usb port, to save port space. This setup works perfectly with WinXP, Kubuntu 5.1, and DSL 2.0 (I am able to use laptop keyboard, fullsize keyboard, mouse, and touchpad simultaneously, with no problems). However, with Slack, both keyboards work fine, but the MS PS/2 Intellimouse cursor will only move in a straight vertical line at the center of my screen, no matter which way I move the mouse. The buttons have no fuction. I have tried changing mouse type to usb, autoconfigure, ps/2, etc. with no difference. I also disabled GPM, but that had no effect either. Interestingly, when I attach a USB optical mouse, it works fine, but disables my touchpad. Any ideas how I can get this mouse/keyboard setup to work?

You could compare xorg.conf settings. Maybe you could find some special settings which let your mouse work in Kubuntu. What X version are you using in Kubuntu?

Try this:

Edit /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and change the line "/sbin/modprobe psmouse proto=imps" to
Code:
/sbin/modprobe psmouse
- then reboot and see if that changed things.

There is no such line in my /etc/rc.d/rc.modules...
