Cool usb mouse laptop slackware 12.0

Hi,
I have a question about setting up an USB mouse in my laptop.
This is the original xorg.conf file:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "auto"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7"
EndSection

I have changed it to he following:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "imps/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7"
EndSection

But it did not work. Also I have xorg.config-fbdv and xorg.config-vesa files. Do I need to change them as well. I used xorgsetup program to set up my xwindow.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,
Once I changed the xorg.conf file. I logged out from the xwindow, and started the xwindow with startx. I did not reboot the computer. When I was back to the x window. The touchpad worked but the plugged USB mouse did not move at all.

THanks,

What do you have in your ServerLayout section. Mine looks like:

Code:
Section "ServerLayout"

    Identifier "Simple Layout"

# Each Screen line specifies a Screen section name, and optionally
# the relative position of other screens. The four names after
# primary screen name are the screens to the top, bottom, left and right
# of the primary screen. In this example, screen 2 is located to the
# right of screen 1.

    Screen "Screen 1"

# Each InputDevice line specifies an InputDevice section name and
# optionally some options to specify the way the device is to be
# used. Those options include "CorePointer", "CoreKeyboard" and
# "SendCoreEvents".

    #InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer"
    InputDevice "Touchpad" "CorePointer"
    InputDevice "USBMouse" "SendCoreEvents"
    InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard"

EndSection
As you can see, I have a line for my touchpad and a line for my usb mouse.

I tried to those lines in my ServerLayout Section, and xwindow could not start at all. I needed to take those lines out.

When you say you tried those lines, do you mean you just copied them in? You need to use your InputDevice identifiers, not mine.

Also, when X fails, you should see error messages on the screen. What do they say?
