USB Card Reader: Medium Not Found

I can't seem to get Slackware 12.0 to allow me to read an SD card placed in my generic Card Reader (Foxconn). I know the reader is okay because it works fine in other Linux distros. I only have this problem with Slackware 12.0. I even downloaded and compiled a new kernel 2.6.23.9, but that still fails to resolve this. With the default kernel I had usb-storage loaded as a module, and with the 2.6.23.9 kernel, I have usb-storage built into the kernel.

Any attempt to mount the card gives me a "Medium Not Found" error message. When I look in my /dev/disk/by-id folder, I see the reader listed once:

usb-Foxconn_CF_USB2.0_Reade_000000000077-0:0

However in other distros that handle this reader successfully, I see about 5 different Foxconn entries in that folder. So it seems that Slackware 12.0 is seeing the device, but not its various slots.

I'm not sure where to go from here.

Can you open a terminal, log in as root, issue "tail -f /var/log/messages" and then plug in the SD card. This should tell you the problem. Post the output here for more help.

Try making '/etc/rc.d/rc.scanluns' executable, and then run it or reboot. It will help detect it properly.

Bingo! That did it. Thanks.
