Upgrading libc.so from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 breaks Mozilla

I run Slackware 9.0 on a couple of Dell boxes. I'm quite satisfied with this and am in no hurry to upgrade, but some attractive software like the latest Firefox (1.5.0.6) and the Linux beta of Google Earth needs glibc-2.3.2, and the 9.0 distribution has only 2.3.1. So I got glibc-solibs-2.3.2-i486-1.tgz from the Slackware 9.1 distribution and installed it with "upgradepkg", carefully saving everything I might need to restore the former state. Google Earth now ran, with some warnings, but Firefox did not, even though I now seemed to have every prerequisite described in the Firefox web page. And, to my surprise, Mozilla 1.7.10, which I had been using successfully with the glibc-2.3.1 library, *also* didn't run. Firefox and Mozilla exit immediately with segmentation faults. Everything else seemed to work, including the old Netscape 7.02. I backed up to glibc-2.3.1 and Mozilla works again, but obviously I'm missing something; can someone give me a clue as to what it might be? Or is this actually a Mozilla-Firefox problem? (Since I'm not talking here about compiling programs, I don't think the glibc libraries in the "L" set are relevant).

I am using google earth, openoffice, firefox and others wihout any problem. I even ran the original kernel on my workstation (server runs the lattest 2.4.33.3)
