errrrrrrrrr I can install KDE fine.... I installed KDE 3.2.1 threw pkgtool and had no problems what so ever I am running it now as I speak .. I had one minor error that I fixed... when I got in to KDE I could open my home DIR but then it would lock up .. so I went to Quickbrowser and that seemed to fix it now it doesnt do that ... other then have KDE 3.2.1 works right out of the box

cd to KDE 3.2.1's tgz's
use pkgtool to remove all the old tgz's and then install everything in current
logout of root and startx ... works

I'm not going to bother messing around with this anymore now that I got kde working. It's strange that these packages discriminate against me.

That didn't work for me

Checked out Kate for ya Kovacs, it doesn't seem to want to save the window layout for me either. I even checked off the option "Restore Window Configuration" under the startup section in the options, but every time I start it back up it returns to its "default" view.

A quick check at bugs.kde.org found this:
http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77244

There even seems to be a patch if you want to re-compile kate from source.

I don't know how long "official" packages will take, P.K. has been very quiet in the changelogs for 10 days now.

Teacup. I'm not sure if you got around the problem. I had the same thing with SuSE. It was fixed by ..

deleting ksycoca in /var/tmp/cache-user /

then running

kbuildsycoca

You may not need this now, but if it helps .. ..

Cheers

Yay! That fixes it. The name of the directory was /var/tmp/kdecache-user, but it worked. Maybe the ownership of the ksyscoca file was a problem? I deleted the one owned by root and rebuilt one that is now owned by the user.

edit:
Ummm... I don't have kde3.2.1 installed anymore. This fixes my kmenuedit problems. That was my original reason for upgrading to kde3.2.1. I'll just stick with 3.2.0 until official slackware packages come out. Thanks!

I'm also loosing my nerves over Kate.

No matter what I try, I can't make it to remember the window layout, and few other configuration options are not saved also. I've tried many desparate things, many editors, but nothing realy beats Kate.

I've tried to start it under root, and I even created new user to see if that will work. Nothing helped, but I'm a bit lazy to downgrade.

I'll just keep kate open 'till end of time When I don't need it I send it to other desktop

But seriously, if anyone has a solution for this, I would realy appriciate it.

Erol
