Upgrade Slackware?

Hi I am wondering what is the best way to upgrade Slackware 14.1 to future upgrades?

Example, From Slackware 14.1 to 15.0 including the kernel and all installed packages (from the cd) and new changes? The whole system basically.

On every new version you can check the text files Pat provides to know how to properly upgrade the system.

In general, you want the files local, and you can use slackpkg to do the work. upgrade-all, install-new, clean-system... and reboot with a lilo run in between. Thing is, sometimes things break mid upgrade.. so having the files local on the hard disk or a cd is safest.

++ on pats notes too. the gotcha's are always there.

Hi,

Slackware 15.0 will be long into the future. Slackware 14.1 was released back in Nov/13 so I would not expect anything other than '-current' changes. You can check http://slackware.oregonstate.edu/sla.../ChangeLog.txt You should sign up for 'Security Advisories' via http://www.slackware.com/lists/.

You could upgrade to '-current' but it is not recommended for production usage.

Look at http://docs.slackware.com/start to learn how to configure your system or upgrade packages. Loads of information at docs.slackware.

http://slackbuilds.org/ would be a good place to get packages that have been built, checked out and available to Slackware users to install.

You can scroll down in the thread window to see related topics/recommendations.
