updating to kernel 3.3.5 causes HDs to sound like 'clicking'

hello everyone,
once i updated my kernel to the stable 3.3.5 and doing a make oldconfig in a .config i had put together for 2.6.37.6 kernel (which was in turn based on the generic .config)

i hear every few minutes that the HDs heads make that 'click' sound as though the heads are parked (like when the computer is shut down).
I hear the clicks 5-6 times, probably one for each of the disks i have, then after a few (5-10) mins again.

its odd and obviously it didn't happen before. the logs are empty (syslog, dmesg, and messages). all disks are accesible. and i'm left to wonder...

any ideas?

thank you in advance for your help

Had that once with a special harddisk. Does it change if you issue "/usr/sbin/hdparm -B 255 /dev/sda"? That should prevent the harddisk from going to sleep. Any number smaller than 255 should allow it more "sleeping", 255 means "disable that feature".
