Updating gtk modules etc

The last part of rc.M and such seems to be updating gtk and pango modules and such.

I wonder is this necessary to do at each boot? Removing this line would cut quite a bit of time of my startup time...so just wondering.

There are a lot of similar discusstions -- About the ldconfig, fc-cache, etc.. All these (besides the gtk stuff you mentioned) are not necessary in rc.M.

People think these should be there "in case" of stupid system administrators who always forget to run ldconfig and fc-cache when needed. I wonder why should we not put into the DVD a chamber maid in case the stupid user forget all other things.

Hmm.

I was only aware of the gtk and pango stuff, which I know is in rc.M

What other stuff is tehre? Can you give any links to some similar discussions?

Personally, I know enough to update my system when I have to, rather than have my system update each time just in case I changed something.
