Updated GNOME 2.8.2 packages for Linux Slackware 10.1
As Linux Slackware does not seem to actively maintain GNOME packages anymore, I have built GNOME 2.8.2 packages for Linux Slackware 10.1. These packages are built for the 2.4.29 Linux kernel as provided with Linux Slackware 10.1. Enjoy !

I use 2.6.10 kernel on "current" branch.
Are your packages just for 2.4.29 in any way, or can be used "kernel-free" way? Do I have to uninstall previous Gnome (Slack built-in 2.6) or may I simply updatepkg? As not everybody needs Dropline Gnome, it is very useful initiative to compile pure Gnome for Slack. Thanks for your effort. |

heh, ok

Thanks alot for the Gnome Packages. Gnome is a PITA to package and these packages represent a huge amount of work.
As they are made for the 2.4.kernel series they avoid some of the problems with the 2.6 kernel series but do not offer the latest (and slightly unstable) features of the 2.6 kernel. They fill a void in that they support i486 processor for those running AMD K2's and Via C3 processors. I suspect these are close to the packages Pat would have made for Slackware if he had the time and inclination. |
Works perfectly, Linuce. Thanks!

Hey thanks Linuce,
installation was a breeze, your instructions clear.. I'm liking what I see so far :) |
I just did a full install of Slack 10.1, minus KDE and GNOME. Downloaded and installed this via your great instructions, and it worked absolutely perfectly.
I really hope you plan to maintain this project in coming releases. Having a pure GNOME install thats completely centered upon the stable Slack kernel/system is excellent. I like Dropline and the other projects, but in the end I just like vanilla GNOME, and the standard kernel. :) |

Linuce, I also want to thank you. I installed yours and they work great.

Hmmm... Yes. I think I'm next in line to give it a try. Gnome is a nightmare to build. I'm suprised you have the patience for it. I was planning on doing this myself once Pat drops Gnome but it looks as if I might not have to... :D Thanks!

LiNuCe, thank you. Your packages are very easy to install and work wonderfully.
Having built GNOME 2.6 from source when it was first released I know how time consuming it can be. |
