Some of us are using, through no fault of our own, various Apple devices. As of iOS 10.2.x - 10.3.1, libimobiledevice-1.2.0 released Jan 28, 2015, no longer works to allow access to iPhone data. I've patched the Slackware provided scripts to build libimobiledevice git master dated Feb 26 2017 (haven't tested newer yet). So far access to the iphone data is restored. It would be spiffy to get an official update. Details here:
