update kernel error

hi there,

i tried to upgrade my kernel from 2.4 to 2.6.11.7 everything went fine until i did " make bzImage" it ran then it stopped and gave me this error msg:

/usr/src/linux-2.6.11.7/scripts/mkcompile_h: line 72: cmp: command not found
......

/bin/sh: cmp: command not found
Inconsistent kallsyms data
Try setting CONFIG_KALLSYMS_EXTRA_PASS
make: *** [vmlinux] Error 1

what is missing ? some one please help me to fix this problem

I'm running Slack 10.1 on Via EPIA Mini-ITX 600mhz Eden C3

You need the diffutils package to compile the kernel.

I believe you're missing the following package

diffutils 2.8.1
http://slackware.com/pb/download.php...s-2.8.1-i386-1

And you could try following the 2.60 guide in the first thread to make compiling easier and in 3 steps. (hint: edit Makefile)
