update kdelibs

Hi,

i m a loyal Slackware user, i m using Slackware 10.0. When i visited Secunia yesterday, i knew kdelib had a vulnerabitity, the critical level was highly critical, so i updated my kdelib immediately although i m not use KDE as my Xwindow manager, my KDE version is 3.3.

i went to slackware official web site to view its security advisories and followed its link to download the updated package, the link is ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackware/slackware-10.0/patches/packages/kdelibs-3.2.3-i486-3.tgz, first at a glance i felt a bit strange because my kdelibs version is 3.3.2-i486-2, it seems more updated than the so-called patch version, but i still downloaded the patch version and upgraded, unfortunately my KDE could not startup, so i removed the patch version 3.2.3-i486-3 and reinstall my original version 3.3.2-i486-2, the KDE worked again.

But i need a updated kdelibs, so i try kdelibs-3.4.2-i486-2.tgz its for Slackware 10.2, finally it worked, very luckily!

i don't know whats wrong, is i486-3 more updated than i486-2? Anyone face the same problem, pls share yr experience to me or tell me whats wrong, thanks.

Slack 10 shipped with KDE 3.2.3, hence the security update would be for that version. Did you at some point upgrade to a newer version of KDE (say the Slack 10.1 version, it has KDE 3.3.2)?

Normally, i486-3.tgz would certainly be a more recent build than i486-2.tgz. Here, however, you're talking about 2 different versions of the library, so it's not a valid comparison.

Hope that made sense, it's kinda late. Anyway, if you're not using KDE (or any KDE apps) it's probably not important anyway.

Hi,

Thank u very much for yr reply, my Slackware is 10.0, however, my KDE is really 3.3, no cheat. i sure that i haven't upgrade my KDE, i just upgrade my kernel to 2.6.10, i think it is my gift i understand that why my Kopete don't work now, because i 'downgrade' the kdenetwork to 3.2.3, if i find the version 3.3.2, i think it will work again.

Very appreciate, thanks again.

You should find the KDE 3.3.2 packages here:

ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar...slackware/kde/

Or get them from a local mirror (preferable):

http://slackware.it/en/pb/search.php?v=10.1&t=1&q=kde
