Unwanted keyboard shift locking

I'm using Slack 9.1 and KDE 3.1.4. Everything works great, except that my keyboard occasionally gets stuck in SHIFT mode (everything's shifted; not just caps lock.) The only way to get it back to normal is to hold down both shift keys for a few moments. I notice this happening all the time after I type "::" (I'm a Perl programmer, so I type this all the time in package names.) I've looked at the keyboard settings for both KDE and X11 and I have sticky keys turned OFF. Anyone else have this problem? It's really annoying. I suspect this is a Slackware bug, since my box at home runs SuSE and I never have this problem there.

USB keyboard or PS/2?

I occasionally have a similar problem, but with different keys.

Whenever I press Shift it activates caps lock for about half a second.

However this is only when using USB keyboard and any DEs. The friggin strange thing is, there's no such problem on the console!
