uninstalling and re-installing nvidia drivers

hi
i deleted the files that the nvidia installer deletes when it tries to install. i upacked the file and read the Makefile/config script.

searched and read this post: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...73#post1104773

i had tried something like that earlier but after doing that, the 6111 driver kept saying
Code:
ERROR: If you are using a Linux 2.4 kernel, please make sure
you either have configured kernel sources matching your
kernel or the correct set of kernel headers installed
       on your system.

If you are using a Linux 2.6 kernel, please make sure
you have configured kernel sources matching your kernel
installed on your system. If you specified a separate
output directory using either the "KBUILD_OUTPUT" or
the "O" KBUILD parameter, make sure to specify this
directory with the SYSOUT environment variable or with
the appropriate nvidia-installer command line option.
using 2.6.8.1 and my kernel source and config are in the dir pointed to by /usr/src/linux. but i did do make mrproper. options?

Just curious. What did you delete and why did you delete them. Why not just use the nvidia installer.

hehe. i deleted the files that the nvidia installer deletes. i did --extract-only and checked the Makefile. i managed to install it with the -K -k 2.6.8.1 options. i had done it coz wasn't able to install the drivers for the kernel. so i thought i'd help it along :P

yes, i did compile and install the kernel using 2.6.8.1 source.
