i have installed slackware12 in my system and every thing was fine for few days & suddenly X-server won't start after a few days of installation. i had tried re-installing nvidia drivers but unable to start x. system stops in the following line while booting "starting X11"
i tried to init 3 and tried to start X but it gave error "connection reset by peer.... fatal error unable to load default pointer theme cursor.... " could not sort what the problem is as i'm facing the problem frequently after every time installation and i have to re-install to use slackware again.

my system configuration is as

Nvidia Gforce 7600GT 256MB DDR3 Graphics card
1.28 GB DDR Ram

Did you have a look at the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file? If it seems like too much gibberish you could post it here.

Ok, it's saying that it can't find the mouse and keyboard. Did you change these? Sometimes I have to use a PS/2 keyboard and mouse to get a rig running and then I switch to USB. If you did this, then you have to run xorgsetup again. If you didn't do this then it gets a bit more complex.

no i have not changed my mouse or key board. but this problem happens to me frequently now but when i installed slackware 12 for the first time it remained working for months with out any problem, after that problem started to arise frequently but i have not changed any hardware. i restored my desktop by reinstalling the font-cursor and x-server started and is now running without any trouble.

It might be a good idea to post your xorg.conf at this point

Try changing mouse driver to ps/2. There was already some warning from Pat about new mouse loading model.
