maybe xorg.conf is ok

Well...maybe xorg.conf is ok, as a non-root user is able to successfully log on to the other window managers. If it is only kde that is having non-root issues, then it seems kde related... maybe verifying their integrity and then reinstalling the packages from the kde set would help...

starting to feel stumped... bob help us

@phidelity,

It suspiciously looks like a permission issue.

To clear things out, could you post the result of the following command. We need to make sure which groups your user belongs to. It's not that we do not trust you, but an error is always possible:

Code:
ls /etc/group | grep username

Gegechris99:

I ran that command but it didn't result in any output in my terminal.
Here is my /etc/group to clear things up: group.txt

Your user "phidelity" belongs to the following groups.

Code:
disk:x:6:root,adm,phidelity
wheel:x:10:root,phidelity
audio:x:17:root,phidelity
video:x:18:root,phidelity
cdrom:x:19:root,phidelity
plugdev:x:83:root,phidelity
power:x:84:phidelity
users:x:100:phidelity
It looks OK.

Sorry my command was incorrect:

Code:
less /etc/group | grep phidelity
Additional questions:

- Do you have a printer connected when starting KDE4? If yes, then add your user to "lp" group.
- Do you have a scanner connected when starting KDE4? If yes, then add your user to "scanner" group.

No I don't have any scanners/printers. Thanks for trying to help pal. I've been Googling for a solution to this weird problem for days now, I'll install a fresh copy of Slackware as a final resort.
