Unable To Play Internet Radio
I have just installed Slackware 14.0, 32-bit. My desktop environment is KDE.
I have successfully installed Java (JDK 7u7) and Adobe Flash Player plugin 11.2.202.238. I used the scripts provided by SlackBuilds.com. In theory, when launching Firefox (v. 16.0) and going to www.accuradio.com/, I should be able to play any of the radio channels. In practice, unfortunately, all I can see is the window on the left side that says "Loading...", no matter what radio channel I pick. SeaMonkey and Konqueror also do not work! My speakers and audio card work just fine. I am able to play music CDs and I can even play Soma FM through the CLI. Any suggestions about how to solve this problem? (Please refrain from suggesting that I should stay away from sites that use Flash Player etc. etc.!) |
chrome has its own built in flash, if you want to try that.

I have Slack 14, 32 bit installed. I installed JKD 7u7 also. I also installed

The vlc plugin can sometimes cause interference, especially when it's flash video/audio media. It prevents the actual libflash.so from working.

It works fine here with Firefox and Opera with flashplayer 11 on Slackware 14.0 and on Debian with Opera and Flashplayer 10.
Have you tested with other internet radio sites, such as shoutcast.com? |
for listening radio on net i use the real player program...

Just as an aside:

RealPlayer is also for stations streaming in the proprietary real formats. Many stations and most "internet radio" stations stream *.mp3. |

Well, I still have not had any luck in fixing this problem...
I first installed flash-player-plugin 11.2.202.238 (from SlackBuilds.com). Then I removed it and installed flash-player-plugin 11.2.202.243 (by Eric "Alien" Hameleers) but still no luck. I know that my audio card is recognized because I can play music CDs, I can listen to music if I use the CLI and go to Soma FM, and also because I hear the music scale when KDE finishes to load. I am absolutely sure that I have installed the correct flash-player-plugin! (i.e. 32-bit) My desktop is quite old (approx. twelve years; it has a Pentium III 1100 MHz; 1.5 GB of RAM) but I think that I meet the minimum system requirements. I also have Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed and I do not have any problem in playing Internet radio channels. I did a full install of Slackware 14.0 without changing anything. There must be some setting in Slackware that needs to be tweaked... But what?? |

Works here as well, Slackware 14 64-bit multilib with Firefox 16.0.1 and latest flashplayer-plugin.

So... given that it works for others, should I re-install Slackware 14.0? Maybe something went wrong during installation??
I really do not know what else to do and I am not exactly a Linux expert! |
Well, as sugested, try google-chrome with the built-in flash...
Download the SlackBuild from extra http://mirrors.slackware.com/slackwa...google-chrome/ |

I have installed Google Chrome as per suggestions.
When I go to www.accuradio.com/ (or any other site that uses flash!) I get the following pop-up message: Quote:

This is a guess:
Try removing the flash plugin you installed from SlackBuilds. Maybe it is conflicting with something. |
I have always just used the Flash player from Adobe: Download Adobe's *.tar.gz, decompress it, and, as root, copy libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/[whatever]/plugins.

You can check your Flash Player configuration in KDE by System Settings -> Lost and Found -> Adobe Flash Player.
Perhaps you have Flash cookies disabled for this site? |

Try this:
copy flash-player-plugin into ~/.mozilla/plugins/ |
I finally solved this problem!
Through trial and error, I have discovered that the most recent Adobe Flash Player version that works on my desktop is v. 11.1.102.63 (released Mar. 5, 2012). Anything more recent than that version does not work! Could it be that newer flash player versions require more recent hardware to run? (My desktop is 12 years old!) I do not know. Perhaps somebody on this forum knows more details. I am aware that using an old version of flash player is dangerous. But I am not going to avoid certain sites that require flash player. I will be as careful as possible! :-) PS 1: I installed libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins PS 2: Older versions of Adobe Flash Player can be downloaded from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/...-versions.html |
