Unable to build the nvidia kernel module

Hello

I have an AMD64 with Geforce FX 5500 AGP, and I run it without problems by nvidia 173-14-12 drivers on Slackware 12.1.
Now I updated to Slackware 12.2 but when I install the nvidia drivers the message "Unable to build the nvidia kernel module" appears on 60% installation.

For luck I find the solution in this forum, and thanks to tdooke who pass the link to nvidia beta 173-14-15 drivers, who work with Geforce 5xxx series and new kernel 2.6.27 of slackware 12.2.

very thanks and sorry for my bad english

Hi,

Some time ago I had an issue installing the nvidia drivers. What kernel are you using with your 12.2 installation? huge.s or hugesmp.s?

Regards

Hello,

nvidia drivers require a patch to be built on kernel 2.6.27.7.

I strongly suggest that you build both the nvidia driver and kernel module using Slackbuilds from Slackbuilds.org.

You need the following slackbuilds:

driver: nvidia-legacy173-driver
kernel module (with patch included):nvidia-legacy173-kernel

If you are not familiar with building packages from source using Slackbuilds, refer to the site HOWTO section.

Also Read carefully the README files for instructions about how to properly set-up the driver after installation (ex: how to use script nvidia-switch).
