Unable to browse ALL webpages

Linux has been upgrade from slackware 9.1 to 10.0.
The broadband was vdsl(Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line).I downloaded rp-pppoe-3.6 and set the protocol as DHCP.

Anything run smoothly, but I cannot browse certain popular webpages such as slackware.com,sina.com, appledaily.com.hk and so on.

But,it is very strange that I can browse google.com and yahoo.com(unable to browse yahoo mail. The error message shows the password is invalid. But I am sure it is correct)

When I try to browse the above webpages, the error messages is as follows:

An error occurred while loading http://www.slackware.com

unknown host

I try to ping the web address:

ping www.slackware.com

unknown host.

It just shows "unknown host".

I check DNS IP address in file" resolv.conf"

you might start with having 3 W's instead of just 2 in front of slackware.com. Or just leave the www out, since it's in the process of becoming deprecated....

As for your specific problem, I can only think of two things: the Level3 problems, or a /etc/hosts file. If you've got /etc/hosts, delete it. You probably don't need it. Otherwise, observe the output from my traceroute:

Code:
traceroute to slackware.com (64.57.102.34), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets

 3 64.26.173.99 (64.26.173.99) 11.582 ms 9.713 ms 9.813 ms

18 slackware.com (64.57.102.34) 86.974 ms 93.164 ms 99.294 ms
Now... most of my traffic is being routed through alter.net, which is MCI's tier 1 ISP, and through Electric Lightwave (ELI). What that means is that my ISP is homed through MCI, and Slackware.com appears to be homed through CWO, who gets their connection from ELI.

As far as Level3 comes in... they're committing a slow suicide, and as part of their efforts, have managed to get themselves cut off by a few other tier 1 ISPs. If you're one of the unfortunate many who only have a single-homed ISP, then you may find that parts of the Internet are simply not accessible through your current connection. The output from traceroute should tell you where the connection is failing, and give a better idea of how to go about fixing it.

try using any of this dns, 200.122.129.100, 196.40.31.206
Is quite far away so it might be slow, be patient.

Is that or you are cought in the Level 3 ISP war against Cogent and other like them.

Check this, you might be having this problem

Thank for your reply.I am not at home now,so I am going to try the above DNS address tonight.

I am afraid that the problem is not relative to the Level 3 ISP war against Cought.Because the machine was tested by a Knoppix Live cd.There were no problems. The internet services were all available on it.
Did you have any recommand ?Thank you very much.
