Two problems again.. Printer and RTC
Ahh, damn.. i took out a eth0 card to check for any IRQ conflicts, in hope to solve another problem, but i made two more problems..
OK, so after i put back the eth0 card into the box (Box was switched off while i was taking out the card, and putting it back in) now i get two problems.
First is when i try to print i get the following:
lpr -P Epson somefile
lpr: unable to print file: server-error-service-unavailable
The curious thing is that i can print over the network to the same physical printer from another computer... and printer server (lpd) is running (it was started at boot)
How can i fix this? Should i recionfigure the printer (with APSfilter?)
Second, i can't shut down my box anymore.
It starts going throught the shutdown process and halts at
Saving System time to Hardware clock (localtime)
and the only way to shut it down (or reboot) is with power switch, or reset button.
What hell could be causing this? I tried different kernels and the same thing happens with all of them.
Ahh! As soon as i fix one problem in Linux i get 3 other ones, it's a never ending circle!
Please check if the directories /sbin and /etc and another important have all the binaries in them.
In your case, specially check for the presence of shutdown, lpd and others files related to the printing daemon.
I told this because one time, i dont remember all the details,
various files from /sbin was missings from one of my box,
so i have to copy they from another box in the lan.

Yup, i did that, i have a root-tail, a neat program that prints /var/log/messages and other logs in real time to the corner of my screen, but nothing came out in the logs...
I will poke around some more, and see if i find something.
Thanks for help

Ok, i got everything fixed. I recompiled the kernel to fix the Clock shutdown problem, and i reinstalled lpd and reconfigured it, and now printer works.
Thanks for all the help guys!
