Two kernel issues

There are two small issues I have with the 2.6.33 series kernels. I actually ran into these prior to 13.1 with my custom build kernels, but I was hoping they'd be sorted in Pat's kernel. Neither are particularly serious, but I'd still like to sort them out.

1) my logs are FULL of hda-intel: spurious response 0x0:0x0, last cmd=0x2f0d00. For example:
Code:
> tail -n 50 /var/log/syslog

I've looked online but haven't really seen what is causing this. I've tried a several different compile option combinations to no avail.

2) My laptop's screen brightness keys no longer function. They worked under previous kernels. I couldn't find a disabled option in Slackware's kernel config. Am I missing something?

For screen brightness, if you are using xfce there is a brightness control plugin from SBo. You could also use xbindkeys and map them to adjust /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCD/brightness.

I use KDE and it has something similar to control brightness. But I liked my keyboard controls! And I'm certain it was a kernel compile that made them go away.

I have a feeling that it's not the kernel that made them go away. It was more likely hal that did it.

I seem to remember installing a new kernel being behind it but I may well be mistaken. I'll have to boot into my old 13.0 kernel to check.
