Turn off last message repeated in /var/log/messages

Is there a way to turn off the "last message repeated n times" message in /var/log/messages?

Have a look at sysklogd(8) - I don't know if you'll like the alternative, but there is one

syslogd -m 0 -c

In Slackware that means editing the rc.d file rather than a container file in /etc/default.

The "-m" flag sets the MARK interval - basically the server's way of saying "HEY, I'M STILL ALIVE!"

OP is looking for the "-c" flag.

That is indeed true. Hmm...

In fact, OP, have a look at /etc/rc.d/rc.syslog :-)

Yup! It was right there at the beginning of the rc.syslogd file:
Code:
# Uncomment the following line to use the -c option to syslogd. This will
# disable suppressing repeated messages, which may be useful with tools that
# parse the logs, such as fail2ban:
SYSLOGD_OPTIONS="-c "
I don't know why I didn't think to look there, or man syslogd. I did `man syslog` for nothing useful and looked in /etc/syslog.conf, also not helpful.

THANKS!

Upgraded Sunday, except for the kernel and mozilla-firefox. Yesterday, decided to do the kernel. No issues aside the Virtual Box problem. I'm using the blob, perhaps that's why the patch doesn't work. Tried 5.2.1 also, no go. So I am back to the 4.9.53 kernel. today I went for the big one... took mozilla-firefox out of the blacklist. Aside from loosing most of my extensions (expected) and learning to get used to the tabs on top, I like this version 57. I'm finding replacements for most of my most used extensions too. All in all satisfied. I am sure the Virtual Box issue will be resolved in due time.

Edit: Also the new location of the reload button.

Edit two: Yikes! How... did this post get here... must be sleepy.

Edit three: In the spirit of staying on topic. I learn something today... wondered about that "last message repeated n times". Never really looked in to it, now I know!
