Turn off laptop monitor
 

The previous question on screen savers reminded me of something...

Is there a way to turn off my monitor on my laptop after say... 10 minutes of no usage? Currently i have a blank screensaver insated, but you can still see that the screen is lit, and being used...

Does this have anything to do with APM?

Go to the bios setting. At boot you should hit some key to get there. I think my laptop is f2. Check the screen at bootup for some message.

Yes APM is related to power management. Here is a mini-howto on the topic of power management, including APM and ACPI under Linux: http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Battery-Powered/. I haven't had a whole lot of luck with ACPI under Linux, but it is the newer standard for power management and the support for it is getting better. Hope this helps to point you in the right direction.

Go to Energy saving in KDE menu. From there you can setup whatever you want.
Make also sure ACPI is properly working on your laptop as many of them do not support the ACPI system.
You can move to APM system that is more widely supported although older.
Uncomment the occourence of APM in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules.
Then, as root modprobe apm or simply reboot the computer.
