Turn off?

Hi!

I asked this question some time ago, but can't find it anymore...

I installed Slack 10.0 on laptop Amalio A and it won't power down itself.

It holds with a power-off message .... but reboot is working. I remember that it was a very little screw I had to turn...butn ot which it was :-)

Thanks, Sascha

Hi there,

It's likely that you have APM power management for this laptop, in which case you need to activate the apm kernel module to get it to self power-off. To try it temporarily, run the command '/sbin/modprobe apm' (need root authority). When you shut the laptop down it should power itself off.

To make this change permanent, look in the file /etc/rc.d/rc.modules for the following line:

#/sbin/modprobe apm

As root user, you need to remove the comment # and save this file. The next time you boot up, this module should be running (you can check with the 'lsmod' command).

Here is the link to the thread that helped me do it:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=230067

Short and sweet:

Uncomment the line "/sbin/modprobe apm" in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules.
For the current session run: modprobe apm

Nirvanix, his post was two minutes after yours. It's likely he didn't see it before posting...

Thank you Shade, you are right. My apologies to drisay. I've let some of the other rudenicks get my goat recently

It's all good! And yeah, I was posting just after you, so I hadn't seen your message yet.

Hey guys!

Flawless victory!

The /sbin/modprobe apm was exactly what I was looking for!

Thanks very much!

Greetings, Sascha
